We are a research team at The Commonwealth Institute of Kentucky, part of the University of Louisville School of Public Health & Information Sciences.
Our team works in partnership with local communities experiencing social and health disparities to improve their health and well-being. We do this through meaningful and sustained engagement with community stakeholders. Our goal is to shed light on community concerns and develop interventions to improve population health.
Our work is informed by social justice traditions, including the key principle: nothing about us, without us. As researchers, we recognize that listening to community voices and maintaining cultural humility are essential to research quality.
Much of our work focuses on creating health communication campaigns to improve health knowledge and health literacy. Health literacy refers to the skills an individual needs to find and understand health information and, as a result, make informed decisions about their health.
Our hope is that our research will play a role, however small, in creating a more just and equitable world.
